Members and Guests are you REALLY contributing??
I've noticed that there are very few original postings from most of the members here. When one does reply to a post (usually because of a pic or video), it's extremely short like, "hey thanks".
I guess what I'm saying is that 10% of the posters contribute most of the real content to this website. This is decidely unfair and causes me to rethink my stay here.
I enjoy reading/seeing experiences from all of you not just the very few of you. Saying a nice "thank you" is great but at some point your contribution has to have "more meat on it" to make this site truly sustainable.
When I hear comments like I have nothing to contribute my response is, why are you here? When you say you don't have the time, my response is why are you here? Are you here just so we can feed your fetish? And once it's satisfied, you scoot away until next time?
Don't be an idler. Do something meaningful for this site...

Re: Members and Guests are you REALLY contributing??
I agree on most part of what you said, a part from this. As i said many many times (this subject comes up every now and then) i believe that on the internet you can NEVER do something for free expecting EVERYONE to act like you. You do what you do for your own enjoyment and because of you know SOME people will be happy and thank you.m66m wrote:This is decidely unfair and causes me to rethink my stay here.
Where do you think we would be now if i would have said "enough" when i noticed how many people actually contribute to the site and to the forum?

I agree on you when you say to them "come on, move your a** and do something for our community!" but please, don't stop doing what you are doing here just because there are not many people like you

Re: Members and Guests are you REALLY contributing??
Many thanks for your reply.
My message was more like a "vent" than to change the behaviour of anyone. It would be extremely rare to change the habits of those adults who are who they are at this stage in their lives.
I do, however, have a problem with those low contributers who have achieved "full member" status. The methodology used in achieving this lofty status is a bit flawed.
Above all, though, people like you are a gift and rare indeed. I sincerely hope you can carry this through because I know that my patience wouldn't allow me:)

Re: Members and Guests are you REALLY contributing??
I 100% agree. I put that ranking here a long time ago, just for fun. At that time it was almost impossible to think about someone reaching that status just with "thank you"...but now that the board is bigger...well...here we are.m66m wrote: I do, however, have a problem with those low contributers who have achieved "full member" status. Look at that ranking as just something for fun, really nothing more

I'm forced to agree with EVERYTHING you've stated, M66M. I would love to see more of the non-active members participate more, although for some... that would be moving a planet, not just a mountain. On Mick's Famous Hose & Soles board, he had eliminated a lot of members who would not post something. New members who'd join would have only one month to do so, in which they would be on probation. If they did not meet a certian quota, they would be gone... simple as that.
I know it's fustrating to see lurkers and leeches achieve full member status, and I don't like it anymore than you and some others. It's not right or fair to the ones to give it their all here everytime. I'm not angry or anything, just disappointed. As I've said time after time... YOU CAN DO SOMETHING. Contribute!
I have to agree totally. I know I haven't been on the forum due to long working hours, but I really try my hardest to make sure that my messages count. I mean every single one of them is from my heart, and not just some random thank you note although it is especially importantt to give credit to the posters here where they contribute some GREAT videos and pics. I'm really thankful for this forum, but I do agree that getting a TOP member status should not happen based on the number of posts.

Ok guys: Ranks removed. ( read here )
I hate to see so many good members like you being annoyed by that ranking system so... i just removed them. I think it's better like this. If you have any comments about this decision, post that as an answer to my message in the News section.
Thank you

Nyl, You didn't have to remove the ranking system just because a "certain" member is not happy about the low participation from some "members" on your fourm. I never had a problem with it, and I feel you should put it back.

Yes Nyllover, you should put it back. One criticism should NOT alter the whole site. Some of US earned it.Babylove wrote:Nyl, You didn't have to remove the ranking system just because a "certain" member is not happy about the low participation from some "members" on your fourm. M66M, I agree with some things you, said but disagree too.I don't know who has gained "full member" status by just posting weak "thank yous". No offense, but I been around longer and those posters who are full members have earned it with quality posts, so you are wrong on that part.
I can't stand the leeches either, but I post for the love for the site and want to keep it around forever. So I contribute as much as I can and don't worry about the people who leech.

A couple comments to add to this subject.
1. The ranking system:
- It can be adjusted so that members "earn" ranks - by having a certain number of posts. That's one thing that rewards people who really do contribute, by Ranking them according to their "true level of participation in your forum"
2. 10% contribute:
- The short response to this is, that's Life - That is how everything works in every single business, community, family, basketball team, ect.
I dont know why this is; but that's normal. In a business 10% of it's employees do 90% of the work; happens all the time - in your local church, same deal - go to a chat room and usually 10% of the people are doing 90% of the chatting; Go to any board on any site anywhere on the net and 10% are doing 90% of the conversing - that's just how it works in everything.
The 10% who contribute will always make any group what it is. So... the key to having a board with LOTS of contributions is Lots of members. Funny how it works; but i got my business start in network marketing where i learned some key principles about business & how things work. And that is one of the many "trainings" i went though - and from observation of my own network marketing team, and others' teams - this held True.
I have run groups on Yahoo - this law holds true there.
I'm a very observative person; and almost anywhere I go, 10% of the people ar edoing 90% of the work - in a movie, 10% of the cast gets 90% of the screen time and they Make that movie what it becomes.
I hope i'm making sense here - this is a great board; partly because the "few" who do share are sharing some awesome stuff - another is because it's founder takes an active role in the community (leading by example) - and lastly it's because there are LOTS of people signed up. 10% of this group contributing 90% of it's content = a great place to go, to see beautiful women showing their legs and feet.

Really really really good message Footman. It shows that you are "in da business" since quite a while
Just one thing: the ranking system was based on number of posts...and it will be again like this. I will maybe change a little the number of posts needed to gain certain levels because those numbers we had were ok when the board was small and receiving 20 messages a week...now that we get 50 messages a day maybe i need to think about them better

You'd be surprised how many people get a rise out of being ranked high IN THE MOST ridiculous pursuit. Using this ranking, now abolished thankfully, I can post 500 "thanks" and achieve full membership in one day. Is that fair?
To make this a better site would you not rather receive status based on merit?
I'm guessing you be pissed off if you were the superior employee only to find that some "slackoff" got better pay and preferential treatment? The key to making this site greater than what it is already, is to cut out the "crap" stuff. The "white noise" if you will. This goes for anything in life.

You don't "earn" anything by being passive. There's plenty of those who had full member status that know, deep-down, that they've underperformed.
I will always prefer "quality" over "quantity".

Let's put it this way, Nyllover: It's important to de-rail "minor" irritants before they create a bigger problem.
I can just hear it now: "M66M is a minor irritant, let's get rid of him."

This is getting TIRESOME. Let's just drop this subject, and move on to footsie stuff. The status bar is gone now, so M66M and whoever else who never liked that thing in the first place should be content and sastisfied... so enough of the damn whinning and crying!!! Yeah I said whinning and crying! If you don't like what I've said... STICK IT!!!!!!!!! I no longer want to hear it... and don't give a s@#$ either. M66M, you have your opinions, I have mine, and the others have theirs, so we must respect each others comments and feelings. In regards to what you previously said, "M66M is a minor irritant, let's get rid of him."... you said it, I didn't! We lost one good member with a lot of potential, and I really don't want to lose you either.
Truth of the matter guys, this is a great fourm, and I'm very proud to be both a member and a moderator. We ALL have something to contribute to make it grow and flourish. Like Kentucky's state motto goes... "United we STAND, divided we FALL". Thanks for your time and attention, guys... that is all.

M66M, I think you take those rankings personally, and there is no reason for it. You can't whine about everything! Who said this site was perfect? We are just hear to share stories, clips, etc. Not brag about our "member status". That's life! Some people get by "slacking", but this is just a site... not boot camp. You can't worry about others, just do your share. You say alot of things, but you have no facts to back anything up. Maybe after you study every thread in the history of the site you can give a TRUE opinion, and not assuming. Take no offense to what I just said.
I think Nyl should do what makes him comfortable. And I think now and in the future we should continue to give our suggestions and feedback to him as well. I know he appreciates it and would incorporate things as he sees fit.
