[ENG] Firewalls & Privacy

Post by Dead Parrot »

Hey,

What are you guys using for firewalls and privacy for your machines? Also, is there any good software out there for cleaning out a hard drive that may have hidden spyware on it?

Thanks,

DP

Here's what i use...

For spyware ant things like that, i use Ad-Aware (the free edition is good enough)
http://lavasoft.element5.com/software/adaware/

As a firewall i use the Sygate Personal Firewall Pro, it's easy to configure and very powerful. Unfortunately it's not free, but if you want it...

As Antivirus i use F-Prot: http://www.f-prot.com (not free too)

Another important thing to use is something to stop popups from webpages, because sometimes these popups actually contain viruses. I personally use a browser called Avant Browser ( http://www.avantbrowser.com ), free of course, but also the Google toolbar does a good job for stopping them.

Finally, i recommend you to update windows very often using Windows Update site...

That's it

If you dont want pop ups, and hate spyware, I suggest you to goto www.techtv.com/callforhelp and under search, try looking for AdAware 6, Spybot:Search and Destroy, and Spyware Blaster. Those three can help you out a lot!

If you ever need help in computer-related topics, visit Tech TV's website. It's got lots of topics about various things...Guaranteed!

And about the anti-virus program...I use the all-popular Norton Anti-Virus. By the way...it's not free... :x
