Movie coincidence or something else?

I think this is a really strange story of 2 movies.
One of my favorite foot scenes takes place in "The Way West" (1967)starring Richard Widmark. Widmark, and the actor playing his teenage son, Michael McGreevey, are riding behind a covered wagon, and a very young Sally Field is swinging her muddy bare feet from the back of the wagon. Widmark tells McGreevey not to look, and he answers he is not-looking as hard as he can, as he continues to stare at Field.
Now, yesterday, I just saw the 1969 movie "Death of a Gunfighter." Richard Widmark again the star and this time McGreevey played a young friend of his. McGreevey's love interest here is 19-year-old Darleen Carr, who has a nice barefoot scene as she sneaks from her bedroom to McGreevey's in her mother's boarding house. But the odd scene comes when McGreevey is chopping wood. We also see Carr washing windows and the camera shows her dirty soles before focusing on her bouncing butt in a skirt pulled up to show her petticoat. McGreevey gets all hot and bothered watching and finally has to dump a bucket of water over himself to cool down.
Seems very odd to me that a young actor could get in 2 similar movie scenes involving young actresses with dirty feet. And that he played a character so involved with Widmark in each film. Was it just chance or was something else at work? Anyway, he was one lucky son of a gun.
