Losing the ability to edit?

Why do you lose the ability to edit posts after like 4 days? A lot of the images on a thread I post on expire and I can't go back and update them
I did that to avoid people posting spam links in old threads, making it impossible to moderate and intercept. Also, people were just randomly delete old (good) posts for whatever reason.
Better make new posts if you want to update links
