NBC Cancels "Coupling" - Missed Opportunity?

Well, after only four episodes, NBC has cancelled their much hyped "Friends" replacement, "Coupling". This is somewhat of a missed opportunity for us because they were apparently following the original BBC script closely. Maybe they would have shown something? Well if you don't know what the hell I'm talking about, read the message below. I posted this on the Yahoo! group a LONG time ago.
Well, I lucked out the other night. I usually work nights, but on
Saturday I worked in the afternoon, which gave me an opportunity to
channel surf that night.
So I end up late at night stopping on the channel BBC America, which
is broadcast on public access tv. You should check your local
listings to see if you can get this or not.
Anyway I got to this channel at the right point in the show. Nothing
under the table was shown, but it was very obvious what was going on.
There's a shot of a couple at a restaurant, seated across from one
another. The table is covered by a long white tablecloth.
The guy says something like, "Please move your foot." The woman,
actress Sarah Alexander (do a search on Yahoo! She is a major
hottie! I think it's www.sarahalexander.co.uk), then smiles and
moves a bit in her chair.
The guy then moans and looks down and says, "That's not exactly what
I had in mind." They show Sarah again, and she's moving a little bit
in her chair and smiling at him. "Oh my," the guy says, "You're
working my zipper with your foot."
They talk for a bit more and she's wiggling a bit in her chair,
obviously working him. He's shaking and very nervous, and even
moreso when Sarah calls the waitress over and asks her to tell them
what the specials are.
He gives a little yelp each time the waitress speaks, and tries to
cover himself by saying he's reacting to how good each special item
sounds. Then Sarah gives the absolute jizz blowing line of the
night, she tells the waitress, "Wait until you get to dessert, he'll
blow his top for sure. I guarantee it."
Oh my god!!
The waitress then leaves and Sarah is still obviously jerking him
off. Then the head waiter appears telling the guy he has an urgent
phone call. He tries to delay it, but Sarah keeps telling him to get
up and take the call. So the guy covers his crotch with the wine
list and gets up, hunched over, to go to where the phone is.
No one's on the other line, but he keeps trying to get someone to
talk. Then Sarah appears behind him, shows him her cell phone and
says, "Gotcha!" The episode then ends.
Very good stuff, even though they didn't show anything.
I did a search on Yahoo and this show is called "Coupling". It is
apparently a very popular sitcom in England, and is now in its third
season. NBC here in the U.S. has bought rights for the series, and
will produce a version here with American actors to replace the
sitcom "Friends".
There is no guarantee that they will simply redo the UK episodes, but
we can hope. The info I read on a few websites says NBC would like
to have the series just as sexually charged as the one overseas.
Let's hope so, and lets hope they keep that under the table footjob
scene in mind.
BTW - based on the episode guide I found, I believe this episode of
Coupling is called "Gotcha".
