One of the things I appreciate most in watching movies is the chance to discover a minor foot scene totally unrelated and unnecessary to the story. Turner Classic Movies just showed "The Young Runaways" from 1968. Some of it took place in a home for runaways. The residents were meditating and one was seated Indian style barefoot on a table. A guy was asking the man in charge if he could stay there until he got a job. In the background the same barefoot extra was seated with leg crossed on the stairs. Another woman was seated below her facing her. The barefoot woman uncrossed her leg and the other woman stretched out her hand. The barefoot woman looked like she playfully kicked the outstretched hand and then crossed her legs again.
I really enjoy it when I find such a scene, perhaps of dangling, dipping in the background or shoeplay under a table, that is not at all a part of the story. Such scenes are almost as good as lengthy scenes or scenes that are given a great deal of attention by directors.
