The stocking/pantyhose comeback?
Has anyone else noticed that leg wear (ie stockings, pantyhose, tights) may be making a comeback? It seems that more and more women are wearing them both in the workplace and casually.
If any of you have a wife or girlfriend that get the female mags (In Style, Vanity Fair, Cosmo, etc...) take a look and page through them. You will notice that quite a few of the models are wearing them in the photo layouts. This usually dictates the future of female fashion.
This is also prevalent in the celebrity world. Take note that there is quite an increase in the number of female celebs that are wearing them, like Jessica Alba wearing black stockings on the Tonight Show.
Now I understand that most women don't care for stockings or pantyhose... but they WILL wear them if the fashion gurus deem them hip again. Women will always choose fashion over comfort.
Is this just wishful thinking, or has anyone else noticed this?

Re: The stocking/pantyhose comeback?
It does seem that there are quite a bit more styles, colors, and manufacturers than there were just a year ago. I would hope that this is a sign that the hoisery industry has finally gotten off of its collective ass and is working to survive and profit as an industry.hiker wrote:Has anyone else noticed that leg wear (ie stockings, pantyhose, tights) may be making a comeback?
I can attest to that. Part of it is, I believe, a backlash against the relaxation of dress code standards over the past few years. I remember with no small amount of horror when the "no hose or socks" proclamation came down from HR when I was working my first corporate job. Although I dont' work there any more I know that policy has been repealed.hiker wrote: It seems that more and more women are wearing them both in the workplace and casually.
My current job hasn't had that happen yet but I have seen more than my share of nylons in the office. The dress code is being revised as well, and just this week they said no more beach sandals in the office, even if they are leather.
I'm glad to hear that.hiker wrote: If any of you have a wife or girlfriend that get the female mags (In Style, Vanity Fair, Cosmo, etc...) take a look and page through them. Alba is news to me!hiker wrote: This is also prevalent in the celebrity world. Take note that there is quite an increase in the number of female celebs that are wearing them, like Jessica Alba wearing black stockings on the Tonight Show.

They will shed them very quickly, but if they love you...or want you, they will wear them for you.

Yes I've noticed I just haven't acknowledged it because my supersititious self doesn't want to jinx it.

We can help this process along by giving the gift of nylon to wives, girlfriends, mistresses or in the upcoming Secret Santa's that will be occurring in offices everywhere (last year I got the office hottie (lucky me) and I bought her several pairs of lacy ankle socks for one of her gifts.)
Compliment them on their looks and reward them for wearing nylon. It will only benefit you down the road.
Thanks Hiker, you always have good observations.

No prob.
Click on the "Quote" button on the top line of the post you are replying to. The "Quote" button appears next to the "Edit", "X" and "IP" buttons.
You will then be taken to a reply screen window just like the one you normally see. The exception will be that you will see the text of the other post inside the text box. Said text will be surrounded by bracketed tags.
The first tag will contain the phrase quote="user name". The other tag at the end of the text will contain /quote. These tags must appear before and after each bit of text you wish to have appear as a quote.
You can delete text within the tags as necessary (if at all). You just type your text as normal. No need to put the tags around that. Once you're done you hit submit as normal and watch the post come up. If you miss a tag just click the "Edit" button and it will take you back to the reply window screen and you can add the tag.
Try it out and practice on this post.

It is fall season THANK GOD!Some places are cooler than others and you got to dress for the weather and the need for hose is greater. But then you have the shallow women who refuse to wear hose AND THEY LIVE IN A COOLER CLIMATE.They dont wear hose because some moron says "its not fashionable" or they see Hollywood actresses WHO LIVE IN A WARMER CLIMATE who dont need to wear them. They need to get in line in back of the Scarecrow so they can get a brain.

StockingStore.com Adds Popular British Import Aristoc to its Exclusive Line of Stockings Available Online
The popularity of British hosiery is skyrocketing. To meet demand in the United States, StockingStore.com has added world-renowned manufacturer Aristoc to its line of quality hosiery items, including vintage stockings.
September 12, 2005 -- StockingStore.com has added to its fantastic line of British import hosiery and stockings by making Aristoc products available in the United States. This line, including vintage stockings and hi-gloss pantyhose, is expected to be extremely popular with online shoppers.
Aristoc is England’s oldest and most-renowned hosiery maker. Aristoc will join British brands Pretty Polly and Jonathan Ashton among StockingStore.com’s exclusive imports, which have been among the company’s best selling lines for several years.
“Sales in the British brands of hosiery have skyrocketed in this otherwise sleepy economy,” said William Bocci, owner of StockingStore.com. “European hosiery sales here in the United States are so strong, we expect our next expansion to include Italian hosiery makers.”
The glamorous styles of the 1950s and 1960s are back, and vintage stockings are surging in popularity. These retro stockings include garterbelt stockings with satin tops, intriguing back-seamed styles, and full fashioned stockings. The smooth glossy feel of 100% nylon stockings still made in the small towns of France and England attracts many women to vintage styles. Also popular are Aristoc’s luxury Nylon/Lycra stockings that are long-lasting, comfortable, and suitable for everyday or special occasion wear. This fantastic material mimics the 1960s style, real 100% Nylon but are even easier to wear and achieve a proper fit.

It's kinda odd, but now that Fall is upon us, I kinda miss the fact that women will no longer be wearing and dangling in sandals. However, as to all the fasihion magazines out there, I know women would wear anything just too look good and keep up with the trends. Just like wearing high heels and the fact taht they're bad for their posture...even though it's almost 90 degrees out during the summer I still see women wearing hose. So yes, thank God for the fashion gurus out there. Meanwhile this is what I'll look forward to at work

Re: The stocking/pantyhose comeback?
I've got to ask... How did she respond to that gift? Although that's a fabulous gift idea from our perspective, it's got to take some gorilla balls to buy a gift like that!Dead Parrot wrote:We can help this process along by giving the gift of nylon to wives, girlfriends, mistresses or in the upcoming Secret Santa's that will be occurring in offices everywhere (last year I got the office hottie (lucky me) and I bought her several pairs of lacy ankle socks for one of her gifts.)

Even though I'm not shy, I'd probably turn fifteen shades of red after watching her open the gift!

Heh heh, quite well in fact.hiker wrote:I've got to ask... How did she respond to that gift?
She was an interesting case Hiker, and we had an odd relationship. Nothing romantic or physical in the least, but there may have been something there if I'd asked. It was just...odd. I can't really put it into words right now.
I bought her a series of gifts that week for Secret Santa, mostly things she could wear (i.e. college T-shirts, belts, a hat). The socks were the most risque, and I had put them in with a couple of pair of athletic socks in her favorite colors. That may have dampened the effect but the lacy ones were quite prominent.
Since my identity had to be kept secret I didn't actually witness her opening the box. During/after our Christmas party when we did the reveal she thanked me and spoke to me about what I'd given her, and she was very positive.

At the very least they're bringing legging/hoisery back into the mainstream. Keep your fingers crossed.

Getting a Leg Up
Sat, May 20, 2006, 8:58 pm PDT
They're so "Desperately Seeking Susan." Or "Flashdance," to invoke Jennifer Beals' pre-lesbian look. But leggings and leg warmers are stalking our city streets once more;and rising in Search. So ready yourself. Two of the signature looks of the Reagan decade have, just possibly, staged their triumphant return.
In the fashion shows for fall, leggings paraded down the catwalks of designers from Paris to L.A. They're stealing back into online apparel searches, too. So far, Web shoppers have proven most partial to the footless tights from Capri and Wolford, though their generosity for the look is boundless. We've also spotted searches for lace, black, lace-trim, and denim stretch leggings. Desperately seeking denim stretch. Lord help us.
As for the thicker, cozier style of shin-wrap, leg warmers may also be enjoying a style revival. Searches for the ballerina-inspired apparel are kicking up buzz. Here are the most popular looks to strut through Search this week...

For those unwilling to waver from the delicate, time-tested look of silk stockings, nylon hosiery, or even colored tights, you can always take up with a thin little sock. Of course, you do so at threat of a pox on your life. Fashion, it's rough.
