Is it allowed or not?

I often browse image sharing websites. Is it allowed to post some selections of photos taken from SmugMug, Webshots, Flickr, Photobucket, Picasa and others?

Are there some restrictions like mentioning their author's name, putting a link to the gallery or whatever?

I've read the rules but didn't find the answer,

Well, there are no specific rules about that. One suggestion could be to check if the author is strictly against posting his material somewhere else and, anyway, best thing to do is always post, among with the photos, a link to the place where you took the photos from.
