The Struggle to Reach
Hi all,
So my interests are a little bit out there, but hey, I figured I'd make them known and see if anyone has insights/stories/etc. I am a big fan of when a woman struggles to reach her cell phone or purse especially (but it can be her keys, pen/pencil, an alarm button, whatever) with her toes. She really struggles to reach, her toes are working hard, but she can't quite reach it.
Now, this isn't something you generally see on TV, movies, or hear stories about. I can think of a few TV and movie scenes (Jessica Alba in Paranoid, Gena Lee Nolin in Baywatch) where it's happened, but very rarely anything original.
So, I guess I'm asking for a bit of help. Anyone seen anything like this, or have any stories to share? I actually am always interested in having a story swap, where I would write a story, and then someone writes one back. Failing that, some discussion on the topic would be interesting.
In fairness, here is the situation I actually got to see in real life: I was on the West Coast for business, and was in a Starbucks. An attractive woman in her 40's was at the counter near the window, and while reading the paper she had her silver flip cell phone on the counter near her. She was dressed in a polo shirt, some sort of shorts, and flip flops. Her toes, if I remember correctly, were painted a deep red, and were a solid size (probably at least a 9) Well, an inconsiderate person coming through banged into her, and somehow, the phone dropped to the floor, skittering across to the wall. Now, the stool was a bit high, and her feet didn't reach the ground. She looked under, saw where it was, and proceeded to reach for it with her right foot. She started off pointing her toes towards it, then as she inched closer, her toes spread out a bit. She was leaning back, extending her leg, but she got no closer than a half inch; I think her toes glanced off the phone. Anyway, she gave up after a minute or so, got off the stool, and bent over to retrieve her phone. Sitting on an adjacent window, I got a great view.
Anyway, any help is appreciated, and glad to be on board (pun intended)

Yes, this is good stuff, and one of the rarest of foot scenes.
Some examples come to mind:
1. Leperechaun 2 - The one where the Leperechaun has to get married. Towards the end of the movie the herione, who is manacled to a bed, is trying to reach a tool that will help her free herself. She was wearing what looked like ballet slippers. In this case she does reach it. This should be available on DVD.
2. The Seven Year Itch - Famous shot of Marilyn Monroe's bare leg extended out as she tries to pull her slingbacks out of view. This should also be readily available.
3. Cliffhangers aka Stop Susan Williams - This was a short-lived TV series on NBC during the late 1970s. In one episode the bad guys were in a hospital trying to kill Susan's (played by Susan Anton) partner/boyfriend. They were holding her back but she was reaching for a button or a cord that would alert the nurses station. IRRC she was wearing slingbacks. In this instance she was able to summon help. Not sure if this on DVD but someone may have VHS somewhere.
Could you elaborate on the scenes you mentioned? It sounds like both of them are recent and popular enough that they would be available for capping.
Good experience too, thanks for sharing.
And welcome to the board.

I think the movie "Cellular" has a scene like that with Kim Basinger.thereacher wrote:Hi all,

Paranoid: Jessica Alba's character is handcuffed to a bed, and is trying to reach her purse because her cell phone is ringing. She elongates her body, stretches out, and after about 30 seconds is able to rake the purse closer. No spreading or wiggling, just reaching. She then picks up the phone out of her purse and, after dropping it once, is able to answer it with one toe. The phone eventually gets taken away, which gives way to some talk of how she picked it up with her feet. If you do a Google Image Search for "Jessica Alba" and "Paranoid," you're sure to come up with some photos of it.
Baywatch: This scene, with Gena Lee Nolin, is harder to find. She is handcuffed to a pole with some putz, and at first is trying to reach some pliers to cut herself off. She stretches out her leg, and her toes are spread out quite well, but she can't quite reach. First, after a minute or so of straining, the bad guy comes in and knocks her foot away. A few minutes later she tries again, and after less straining, is able to reach a can of lubricant to get the cuffs off. This scene is great because, first off, it's a longer scene, with close-ups of her feet as they spread, wiggle and strain. Second, you see her facial expressions, and she is visibly frustrated that the object lays just out of her toes reach. As I said, it's a tough scene to find online.
Melrose Place: Marcia Cross' character tries to reach a knife with her toes, as she is tied to a bed. The knife is never out of reach, and she doesn't really struggle to get it. This is another one that may be available out there, but I don't see much of it.
That's about it; I'd heard of the Leprechaun scene, but not the others. I definitely appreciate any insight anyone can give. Also, the offer to trade stories is still open. I can write one rather quickly if someone is interested.

The availability of the Baywatch and Melrose Place scenes will depend on narrowing down the season and episode.
It looks like the first couple of seasons of each show are on DVD. I would think that since both shows are recent enough and popular enough (shudder), they would be available for download somewhere.
The Baywatch scene sounds really good. Too bad it couldn't have been one with her wearing RHTs. Oh well.

I can tell you the episodes - the Melrose one was "Hook, Line and Hayley," and the Baywatch scene was in "Home is Where the Heat Is." If you're interested, I would search under those episodes.Dead Parrot wrote:The availability of the Baywatch and Melrose Place scenes will depend on narrowing down the season and episode.

I may try to get the whole Baywatch scene, but the Melrose one I've seen quite a bit. I'm also always on the lookout for new scenes, or people who are willing to write stories about the subject.

Saw another situation this weekend. In a library, a woman (in her 20s) was trying to reach her pen that had rolled under the table. She was wearing flip flops, her toes were unpainted. She asked her friend to get it, which brought up the following exchange:
friend: Why can't you get it? Where is it under there?
girl: I can't reach it! See, just in front of my toes; it's barely too far away.
Friend: Ok, fine...I just don't think you're trying hard enough
Girl: Haha - really, my leg's not long enough (wiggled her toes around, to prove that it was too far).
The friend reached under the table and got it. The girl was really trying though, and unsuccessful. The pen was probably 6 inches or so away, no way for her to reach it with her toes.

Struggle to Reach
I have seen "Fever Pitch", it is ok, but I didn't really get off on it. Its ok, but really didn't do that much for me. I think you can get it via Netflix.

Re: Struggle to Reach
Cool, thanks. I was just wondering if anyone on the board had the clip or knew a place to find it online. I'll probably go the Netflix route.wsrfr wrote:I have seen "Fever Pitch", it is ok, but I didn't really get off on it. Its ok, but really didn't do that much for me. Thanks, nice scene. Something like that would be more effective with her wearing nylons. Less dexterity for her, so that means more fumbling and struggling to manipulate the phone.
I found this gem on the Danboori forum.
Enjoy,

Vaness Marcil was tied up in an episode of "Las Vegas" earlier this month, episode called Heroes. She reaches for phone and uses it with bare feet. Caps and clip posted on the HITW Gang Web site. Unfortunately free period to view will be up today.

No problem - I agree, I was just glad to find the scene. Thanks to the others for their postings as well, the Marcil scene is a good one.Dead Parrot wrote:Thanks, nice scene.
